When you mention baby photos everyone tends to think of newborn, or 1st birthday cake smash photos.
But honestly the best age to photograph babies is between 7 – 11 months.
Photographers often call these types of baby photos ‘sitter sessions’, because they’re planned for a time when baby is starting to sit on their own.
So why is this such a fantastic age to photograph?
There are so many reasons I thought it would be best to put them in a list…
- They’re learning so many new things such as sitting on their own and clapping.
- They’re so interested in everything around them and have so much fun coming into the studio. It’s a new experience for them and they get so excited seeing all the new things. Plus many haven’t seen a big camera before, so they’re often transfixed which means we can get stunning close ups of their eyes.
- They’re discovering their feet. It sounds strange, but when babies play with their feet and pull up their legs it’s just adorable and wonderful to catch on camera.
- It’s at this time that babies have the most rolls and look absolutely adorable. Once they start really crawling and walking babies start to lose those incredible little rolls, so it’s amazing to capture them to remember how cute and squishy they were.
What does this type of baby photo session entail?
The session lasts for 45mins – 1 hour and is super relaxed, babies needs come first at all times so if they want a feed or a cuddle thats exactly what we do.
Their happiness and comfort is paramount, hence why I tend to use my little bed for these sessions. It’s super soft so if they’re not yet 100% stable sitting they have a very comfy surface to topple onto and roll around on.
Plus I also love the feel and look that the bed gives these types of baby portraits. It’s so comfy, soft and homely.
We tend to start off with baby just in one of our pretty little Kit & Kin nappies. A baby in a nappy is so natural and how you’ll remember them, plus you can see all of their adorable little rolls and dimples.
Then we pick out an outfit from the studio wardrobe for them to wear.
This type of baby photo session costs £200 and that includes 20 digital images, 20 6×4 inch prints and a 20×20 inch large print.
